We established the charity DCWC Nepal here in the UK in 2004 to help to develope the poor people of Nepal with an emphasis on health and education for women and children. Since that time the charity has gone on to build eleven schools and a hospital by the end of 2009 and is continuing to grow rapidly into 2010. The work we do is a conscious effort to practice right livelihood, and to extend our principles of practicing selflessness, humility and compassion. Our travels in Buddhist countries took us into
Tibet and Nepal in 2002, and it was whilst in Kathmandu we came across a young Nepali who had just started the charity - Development of children and women centre in 2000. Akkas vision was to bring help to the desperately poor rural areas of Nepal, from where he himself had come from, and new only too well how difficult it was to survive there. On returning to the UK we began fund raising for Akkas charity and in 2004 established DCWC Nepal as a UK registered charity. From those humble beginnings
Gary and Sharon Collier have been joined by seven other trustees along with charity patron Sean Wilson. It took till 2006 for the first school to come along but more came along very quickly as the charity grew and more funding came along. We have been very fortunate to have had great financial support from some very generous people. In 2007 we held a health camp at a school opening in the Kavre district of Nepal. We also held a 5 aside football tournament and were privileged to have in our
DCWC Nepal football team Mr Brian Kilcline, Captain of Coventry City in their 1987 FA cup triumph. The health camp was a huge success. We had traveled there with a team of doctors and nurses and were equipped to treat a thousand people. Such was the demand over the 4 day period we treated well over twice that amount. Since this time we have begun to develop a medical centre in this region of which phase one is due for completion in Spring of 2010.
